Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach
Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach MdB, born 1963 in Düren, studied medicine in Aachen, Texas (USA) and Düsseldorf (PhD). He studied epidemiology and health economics (health policy and management) with a doctorate at Harvard University (Dr. Sc.) in Boston, USA.
Since 1998 he is the Director of the Institute for Health Economics and Clinical Epidemiology (IGKE) at the University of Cologne – on leave since November 2005. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston since 1996 and a Member of the German Bundestag since 2005.
From 2009 – 2013 he was the Health Policy Spokesman of the SPD parliamentary group and from 2013 – 2019 Deputy Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Full member of the Bundestag’s Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection and the Subcommittee on European Law.
